Timeless Principles on How to Vote

From presidents to propositions, campaign ads and debates can confuse us. When there are many opinions on how to govern, how do we know how to vote? My philosophy has been to pray for wisdom, learn what I can, and go with what I know. One thing I know is God’s Word contains timeless principles. That means His wisdom is relevant to our time.

Consider the following:

The sanctity of human life from birth to the grave:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

“Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.” Genesis 9:6

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalms 139:13

The nation of Israel:

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”Genesis 12:2-3

The institution of marriage:

Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

“The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.’

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:22-24)

“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.'” Mark 10:6

The rich and the poor:

“‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.” Lev. 19:15

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 23:22

“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.” Proverbs 29:7

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these or other issues. As the world changes in many ways, I am so glad Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” (Hebrews 13:8).

May we treat each other with respect as children made in the image of God, and may our great nation honor Him.

See you at the polls,

Debbie Wilson

Israel, Daniel, and Our Hope in Crushing Times

On the heels of my father’s death, we learned my father-in-law had lung cancer. Shortly after that we received two more rounds of bad news. I wrote in my journal, “Lord, I feel like a squished grape.” Have you ever been flattened by bad news? God gave Daniel a vision...

Israel at War: Prayers, Hope, and Heartache

“Have you seen this?” Larry held out his phone displaying a news flash announcing that Israel had been attacked. I stared at the screen, rereading the words, not wanting to believe what I saw. Swallowing hard, I whispered, “Deb and her husband are leading a team there...
