Will You Enjoy God’s Peace This Year?

Today, my good friend and Lighthouse Ministries board chair Lisa Grimes shares some thoughts to help us start our year off well and enjoy God’s peace. At the end of this post look for our winter study. Now here’s Lisa.

As we enter 2022, I wanted to share a few things worth pondering. Let’s start with a verse that many of us read during Christmas.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 NIV).

Which one of His many attributes do you need most right now?

Wonderful Counselor

He’s the best advisor who’s ever lived. We can ask Him anything. He knows all and He’s always available.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).

Do you need help in making a big – or little – decision? Ask Him to lead you, guide you, advise you.

Mighty God

He is powerful and strong. He’s a victorious warrior who fights on our behalf.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’” (Psalm 91:1-2 NIV).

What battle do you need Him to fight for you? Will you give it to Him today?

Everlasting Father

He is the loving Father of all. We can call him Abba, Father. He loves us with an everlasting love. And He will reign for all of eternity. We can find security in knowing our home is with Him.

I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV).

Where do you feel unloved? Unworthy? In need of kindness? Encouragement? Run to Him – He’s with us forever.

Prince of Peace

He alone is the giver of perfect peace…the peace that passes all understanding.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:7 NIV).

This peace doesn’t ebb and flow with our situations. This peace endures through trying times, frustrating failures, and challenging circumstances. Are you entering 2022 with His peace?

It’s popular to pick a ‘word of the year’ but it’s something I’ve not done. Instead, I like to choose a verse for the year. I felt like He gave me my verse for 2022 several days ago in John 17:4, I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. That’s my goal for this New Year—to bring Him glory in all I do. I’d love to know if you have a ‘word’ or a verse for 2022.

Happy New Year!
