Are You Ready for the Return of Jesus?

“When will they be here?” I asked my mother for the umpteenth time.

“Soon,” she said.

“That’s what you said last time! When is soon?”

Our family lived in Savannah, Georgia and my aunt and uncle were driving down from Alexandria, Virginia to visit us. The house was ready; the food prepared, and the day had arrived. My sister and I strained our eyes watching our road for the first sign of our cousins’ station wagon.

Once the expected day dawned, waiting the hours for their arrival felt like an eternity. Especially when we had to keep the house clean.

I’m not sure my mother felt that way. When you are the hostess, there is always plenty to do before your guests arrive.

The Return of Jesus Is Soon

With all the global chaos that is happening, I’ve heard many ask if this could be the year Jesus returns. The birth pangs signaling His return are coming closer to each other (Matt. 24:6-14). And Jesus Himself said,

Look, I am coming soon” (Rev. 22:12 NLT).

Jesus told us to live as if He could return any moment. He has promised that He is coming and will reward all those He finds ready to welcome Him.

Jesus said, ‘Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready’” (Luke 12:35-38 NLT).

We think of “soon” as meaning in a short time. But the word can also mean quickly, suddenly, or fast. It’s been 2000 years since Jesus promised to return, so the second meaning makes sense here.

The prophesies that must happen before His return are fulfilled. He’s at the door, ready to step in. His return will occur in the blink of an eye.

When company rings the doorbell, it’s too late to shower or pick up the house. It’s time to greet them. Jesus said He’s coming soon. When He steps through the door, it will be too late to finish our chores or ready ourselves. Now, is the time to be busy in the work He has left us to do (Luke 12:42-46).

Anticipating His soon arrival clarifies our focus. May He find His bride ready and full of faith when He returns for her. I can’t wait!

Indeed Ms. Debbie. While I believe my wife and I are ready, my heart breaks for those we have not yet reached with the gospel message. Yes, the gospel is shared in all corners of the world, as prophesied, but not all have heard; and fewer have listened. Still I say, “Come Lord. Thy will be done.”

J.D., you’re right. That is part of the work He’s entrusted us with. Praying for a great awakening.

    Debbie,
The way our world is going, I’ve been having homesickness for my heavenly home. It sure seems like the labor contractions are coming closer together. I want Jesus to be pleased to find me being about His business whenever He chooses to return. Love your new pic and the colors of your blog are so soothing 🙂
    Blessings,
    Bev xx

Soon! If it’s not this year I’ll be surprised. I feel it will be soon. I love your blog. This is so good! My kids aren’t saved. Well I don’t know but they don’t live like it. I pray they are. But I have 9 grandchildren and one is saved. She’s 9, ones 5 and the other 7 are not saved. Have you heard the song, Soon? It’s beautiful and is fitting for this blog entry. Thank you!

    • Debbie Wilson

Sherry Lee, may the Lord reach them all and draw them to Himself. Yes, I hope it is soon.
