Hope: Abortion Isn’t the Solution to Your Crisis

Kelly shared her moving story a couple of weeks ago describing her painful dilemma over whether to go through with her scheduled abortion. The daughter she saved turns 30 this month.

Below are the links I promised covering various aspects of this complicated issue. One link is from a post-abortive father. Three decades later, both Kelly and Greg still experience deep emotions when they talk about their respective crises and decisions.

George Orwell said, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Jesus, a revolutionary in the highest and best way, said “the truth will set you free” (Jn. 8:32). The truth is abortion destroys innocent lives and leaves many others wounded and distressed. Abortion destroys not only individuals but also the nations that permit and foster it. Those being fed lies need caring people to get involved and provide honest answers and real help.

Changing a Name Doesn’t Change the Reality

Please don’t fall for the lie that abortion is a woman’s right or health issue. Science, the testimonies of those who’ve experienced it, and the Bible say otherwise. Abortion is a billion-dollar industry. Yet, the Biden administration has promised to fund abortions both here and in other countries with American tax dollars.

According to ACLJ (AMERICAN CENTER FOR LAW AND JUSTICE, INC.), 42.6 million babies were aborted in 2020. For context, according to Johns Hopkins tracking, in that same period there were around 2 million deaths associated with COVID. That means 42% of worldwide deaths last year resulted from abortion.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (Jn. 10:10 NIV).

Someone said it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. With the number of abortions, you can be sure abortion has affected someone you know and care about. Below are some links to inform, instruct, and help those wrestling with a decision and those who suffer from post-abortion pain.

A Post-abortive Father’s Moving Story

In a heartfelt interview, Greg Smalley, Vice President of Marriage at Focus on the Family, describes what it’s like to be a post-abortive father. This link contains a written interview and a very moving short video on how thirty years later he still can’t remember this event without deep distress. You’ll also find resources to help those who, like Greg Smalley, suffer from post-abortion trauma.

The Abortion Industry’s Tactics

In Why I Left the Abortion Industry,” Abby Johnson, Annette Lancaster, and Sue Thayer offer a behind-the-scenes look at the abortion industry as they describe their past work for Planned Parenthood. They share the pressure and incentives they received to push abortions. These women began their work believing they were helping women in need, but their experience transformed them into passionate pro-life advocates. (Part 1 of 2).

Abortion State Laws and Photos of Pre-born Children

Paul “Skip” Stam, Former Speaker Pro Temper of the NC House of Representatives, speaks on North Carolina abortion laws. At the 4:10 mark he shows photos of a three-month and a six-month pre-born baby. He points out how the six-month pre-born baby is what John the Baptist looked like when he leaped in his mother’s womb at the presence of Jesus in just conceived Mary. The three-month old depicts how Jesus looked when John the Baptist was born to be a prophet and “go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him” (Luke 1:76 NIV).

It’s tempting to retreat from our broken world because the problem seems too big. However, the Gospel demands we engage when the days are evil.

‘Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.’

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Ephes. 5:14-16 NIV).

When the church is awake, Christ will shine on us and we will be lights in the world.
