The Most Important Tool for a Happy and Healthy Life

One father quipped to his soon to be son-in-law, “My daughter doesn’t come with an instruction manual. You’ll have to do the best you can!”

Parents of teens often search bookstores for instruction books on raising teens. While there may not be a book with your child’s name on it, our Creator has provided a Book of Wisdom for you.

Yet the devil wants you to doubt the book that provides the way to a happy life. Satan cast doubt on God’s Word with Eve. “Did God really say…” (Genesis 3:1-4). He misled Eve to believe God was holding out on her and there were no consequences for ignoring His warnings.

This should make us question our doubts instead of questioning the Bible. Satan knows if he can make you doubt the reliability of God’s Word he’s got you.

The Bible is God’s tool to a happy and healthy life. Here are some facts worth remembering.

  • The Bible claims to be God’s truth (See Psalm 19 and Psalm 119).

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17, ESV).
    .
“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers” (1 Thessalonians 2:13, ESV).

  • God’s timeless truths keep us stable.

Has the changing morality of our society left you questioning what is right? Human philosophies come and go. Biblical wisdom remains pertinent in every generation and culture.
    .
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8, ESV, emphasis added).
    .
“So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes” (Ephesians 4:14, ESV).

  • God’s Word feeds our faith.

Do you want a vibrant faith that delights God and sustains you through difficult times?
    .
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17, ESV).

  • God’s Word is our offensive weapon against spiritual attacks (Ephesians 6:17).

When tempted in the wilderness, Jesus quoted Scripture to overcome the devil (Matt. 4:1-11). No wonder Satan casts doubt on its power and authority.

  • God’s Word reveals the source of and solution to our problems.

Scripture is an MRI and skilled surgeon all in one. It also guides us so we can avoid injuries.
    .
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Heb. 4:12 ESV)

“Through your precepts I get understanding…Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:104-105, ESV).

  • God’s Word brings liberty and blessing.

The world calls God’s Word confining. Actually, the opposite is true. It protects us from deception and bondage. It frees us to develop into our best selves.
    .
“But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing” (James 1:25, ESV).
    .
“And his commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3, ESV).
    .
“I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them” (John 17:13, NIV).

A pastor friend once said you don’t prove a knife is a knife by discussing the blade’s properties. You slice an apple. Do you want a meaningful and happy life? Read and live your Bible. It is the best tool for a happy and healthy life.

Stay Faithful: He’s Coming Back!

Growing up, Larry spent a lot of time working in his family’s small grocery store. He stocked shelves, rotated products, and removed old produce. His father would take him to a certain area and explain what needed to be done. Then he’d retreat to another area of the...

Thanks, Toby! Great to hear from you.

  2. Ann J Musico

It all comes down to being doers and not hearers only doesn’t it? We can’t just “try” to do the Word – we just need to do it. It always proves itself because it cannot lie or fail!

    • Debbie Wilson

Amen! Doers of the word enjoy blessed lives. Thank you, Ann!

  3. J.D. Wininger

Have always appreciated the unknown person who created an acrostic with the word “BIBLE.” Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Amen! God’s word is the source of truth, promise, encouragement, and instruction for living this life God created us for.

    • Debbie Wilson

J.D., I’d never heard that before. Perfect. Thanks so much!

  4. Marilyn Nutter

Timeless truths keep us stable. We should frame that or at the least write it on a post it note near our laptops. Thank you!

    • Debbie Wilson

I like that idea, Marilyn! And isn’t it the truth. Whenever my world tilts, God’s word holds me fast.

  5. Melissa Henderson

Amen. Thank you for this important message.

Thank you, Melissa. God’s word brings life and liberty to those who live by it.
