12 Magic Minutes—a Gift for the One You Love

I have a gift for you. It’s a present that could change your life, bless your marriage, and boost your relationship with God. My gift is a simple tool to equip you to connect with and minister to your spouse, child, or close friend. It takes just 12 minutes and isn’t dependent on your Bible knowledge.

3 Easy Steps to Meaningful Connection

  1. Read

Read aloud a short devotional together. You may want to divide the reading between those participating. Choose a devotional that is short, simple, and Scriptural. Our Daily Bread, Jesus Calling, and My Utmost For His Highest are a few examples. You can also choose a short biblical passage. The goal of the reading isn’t to learn a lesson but to listen to God and capture His thoughts in your hearts.
    .
  2. Reveal

Take a moment to contemplate what stood out to you. Each participant tells what struck him or her—in other words, a personal take-away. The goal isn’t to summarize what was read but to identify what struck you personally.
    .
  3. Request
Tell each other what you want God to help you with regarding what was shared. What might God want you to believe, trust, or do in light of what’s been read and considered?Take your request to prayer. Ask God to help your partner with his/her desire. Pray aloud for each other and their desire. Resist praying for other things until you’ve asked God to help with these specific desires.

Taking just 12 minutes a day to have a spiritual encounter with God and with someone we care about will deepen our relationships with Him and with them. This type of relationship strengthens us for life’s challenges (Eccl. 4:12).
