Gratitude makes us rich. Sometimes we don’t appreciate the incredible gifts we enjoy daily until we face the possibility of losing them. A woman tending her dying husband remarked, “What we would give for one ordinary day together.”
This week our nation celebrates Thanksgiving. For the one who knows Christ, everyday should be filled with thanksgiving, yet in the busyness of life, it is easy to take our blessings for granted, or focus on what we appear to lack, or on perceived problems, and miss appreciating the true riches that are ours.

“From this time on all generations will count me blessed,” Mary exclaimed after learning that she, an ordinary woman in a humble place, had been chosen by God to carry His Son. And she was right. Especially at Christmas, all around the world we remember and are amazed by the miracle of the virgin Mary conceiving and carrying the Christ child and of the honor and responsibility that went with this miracle. To have God living in her. Can you imagine being chosen for such an honor?
Now stop and consider the miracle we have as believers carrying Christ in our bodies, and not just for nine months, but for as long as we wear these earth suits. Have you or someone close to you ever battled with addictions? Probably so. They are very pervasive and very easy to slide into. Webster defines addictions “to give oneself up to a strong habit.” Some addictions on the surface seem rather harmless such as; needing my cup of coffee, spending excessive time on the computer, at work or in the gym.
