Are You Feeling Loved Today?

“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17b-18

A wrenched back sent me hobbling to my chiropractor last week. While waiting in the lobby I picked up the Gideon Bible on the table next to me. As I read through Ephesians 1, I came to verse 4, “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world …” As I read that, I was reminded of Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

What an amazing thought! In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, but before the foundation of the earth, He chose me! I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel pretty special.

Have you ever felt unwanted or unloved? In The Day Diana Died, Christopher Andersen writes, “From the beginning Diana had felt unloved and unwanted.” This little girl who felt so unwanted and unloved grew up to be a real life princess, and though she would be adored by the world, she continued to feel rejected by many close to her. Everyone, even princesses need to know they are loved and wanted. All the crown jewels in England are no substitute for real love.

That is why understanding God’s love for us is so important. Ephesians 1 continues, “In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will …” Can you grasp that you were loved and wanted before God set the world spinning on its axis?

The transaction of becoming His child takes place when we receive Him and believe in His name (Jn.1:12). At that moment the King of kings becomes my Abba, Papa. That makes me a real live princess who is loved and wanted by my Bridegroom and King. The really good news about this is that He didn’t choose us based on our behavior, but based on His loving character. This means our security rests on Him, not on how well we perform.

Is it possible to be loved and wanted and not know or feel it? Yes, that is why we must remember that our feelings can lie to us. We must discover and embrace the truth of how God sees us. We are royalty!

When was the last time, or have you ever considered the marvel of being chosen and unconditionally loved by God? How would believing that you are deeply loved affect the way you live? Take some time to meditate on Ephes. 3:17-18 at the top of the page and marvel. God wants you to know and experience how much He loves you.
